About us
Sampark means communication. It means to strike a dialogue which would help to bring about a change in people's attitudes and behaviour. Hence, the name. Because we believe in this word to the core. We believe that with right communication based on precise information, anything is achievable. From change of heart to the change in a policy.
Sampark follows one simple logic. Social change is relevant but not necessarily through provocative agitations. Persuasion with the help of correct Advocacy and the right choice of words can lead to the desired action. By harnessing this incredible power of words, Sampark has been instrumental in prompting public debates on several social problems and their resolution, formulation and implementation of public policy.
Some of the issues Sampark helped gain a voice are:
- Livelihood
- Literacy
- Anti liquor campaign
- Maternal & neonatal health
- Malnutrition
- Employment Guarantee Scheme
- Development of Dalits
- Right to Information
- MNREGA
This would never have been possible without Sampark's network. Media persons, researchers, intellectuals and netizens who believe in Sampark's philosophy are associated with it. The organisation is well connected with various social organisations, movements and the media, helps Sampark to keep a tab on the emerging global trends, policies and the consequent challenges for social movements.
Sampark also promotes good work being done by the NGOs and Governments through media. On one hand, it facilitates NGOs and volunteers to reach out to the policy makers and media and on the other hand it brings journalists, academicians and opinion makers near to the movements. Sampark has been empowering NGOs & activists in Maharashtra by imparting effective media communication and documentation skills.
An activity started by Medha Kulkarni way back in 1993 by Medha Kulkarni, with the support of veterans such as Pushpa Bhave and Anil Awachat, has today gained a tremendous momentum. Today, Sampark has grown to become a movement.
A movement that advocates change.
